Ralph Ferrand is based near Bristol in the South West and is happy to take on commissioned work anywhere in the world, providing the costs of travelling are met and the area isn't too dangerous!

Ralph works in a variety genre. The majority of commissioned work comes from television drama, though he does take on commercial work and even the odd wedding. When taking on a wedding, it is always stressed that Ralph is not a traditional wedding photographer but many couples appreciate his insightful view with snatched portraits of friends and family. Only a limited number of weddings are booked in a year as it is felt that the repetition could stifle creativity.

 
Ralph has been working in television drama for seventeen years and has even worked on a few feature films. He is used to working on-set with artists of all levels and temperaments. He is as comfortable being the 'invisible' photographer recording a shoot for publicity, as performing a photoshoot for the art department with or without direction.
  

 

A portable studio can be set up anywhere, space permitting, with radio triggered modern studio flashes and a comprehensive list of studio equipment. A four wheel drive vehicle is available to get people and equipment to less accessible locations. Most work is now carried out using Nikon's flagship digital single lens reflex camera the D2X and all genuine professional Nikkor lenses. All work is colour corrected and output in-house with a calibrated workflow. Prints can be produced in-house on a roll fed machine onto 44" (1118mm) media. Laminating and mounting can be provided in-house up to a maximum size of 40" (1015mm) wide by 8' (2400mm) long. Mounting can go onto pretty much any flat material up to 1" (26mm) thick. A digital printing machine is also available to print short run full colour prints. This particularly useful for artists and models who need post cards etc to promote themselves.

Portfolios can be produced for models and artists either in the studio, on location or a portable studio can be set up at a convenient venue. Whilst Ralph is more than happy to shoot art nude and even artistic erotica, he will not become involved in any form of pornography. He will not shoot nudes or semi-nides of any model who is under the age of eighteen or cannot prove his or her age if any doubt exists.

Photoshoots are mostly charged on an hourly basis, rather than on a day rate, though flexibility is possible. The current rate is £50 per hour plus VAT. Within the UK, travel costs are charged the hourly rate. Wedding packages, including prints and travel, are available starting at £500.
